Things I Love

This is another installment of "Getting To Know Me", with a slight Valentine's Day twist:  I'm only listing things that I love.  I'm going to try not to list things that y'all already know, although if you're a member of my family, you'd better already know them!  ;-)

I love:

-Porch swings:  wooden swings hanging from metal chains.

-Screen doors:  real ones without glass, especially ones that creak & slam shut.

-Old-fashioned items:  basically, if it looks like it could (or did) belong in someone's grandmother's house, I love it.

-Plants:  I have 2 large peace lillies, 7 ivies, 2 hydrangeas, 2 lantanas, 8 mums, 2 unknown plants given to me by a student, an old large plant named Big Daddy & his offshoot named Little Daddy, & 2 wisteria - & these are just my potted plants!

-Old music:  Hit Parade 1945 is one of my favorite CDs.  And you already know that I heart Bing Crosby & Louis Armstrong!

-Musicals:  Of course, it stands to reason that I'm wild about musicals, too.  My favorites are "The Sound of Music" & "White Christmas", & I adore the Fred & Ginger movies.

-Grass & gravel driveways:  This was the first thing that drew me to our home.  Maybe it's old-fashioned or it reminds me of the country, I don't know, but they're definitely preferable to concrete as far as I'm concerned.

-Barns:  If we are ever able to build a house, we're building a big ol' barn complete with sliding barn doors on the side!  Or so says me, anyways.

-Country:  Not the music (which is completely heathenistic), but the land.  I am by no means a city girl, even though I wasn't raised in the country.  I love the open land totally devoid of shopping centers, rush hour traffic, & throngs of people.  Just trees, meadows, & animals - although hopefully none that will eat me.  ;-)

-Flip-Flops:  I would wear these year-round if my feet didn't freeze in winter.  As a matter of fact, the mild weather this past weekend allowed me to slip them back on.  My common statement when wearing socks & shoes is that "my feet can't breathe!"

-Camping:  My favorite time of year to camp is in the Fall.  When I hear crows cawing, I get that itch to set up a tent & sleep outdoors.  That longing had to be deferred this past Fall, but we'll hopefully get to go this year!

That's all folks!  I hope you enjoyed my little list & that I was able to keep you at least slightly entertained.  Have a great day!  "Y'all come back, now, ya hear?!"

Getting to Know Me

One of my blog friends writes "Getting to Know the Blogsterette" posts.  I thought that might be a good way to sort of lighten the mood over here.  So, I'm going to share some things that you may not know about me.  This is just as it comes to me, so it'll probably be pretty random.  ;-)

-I majored in voice before becoming an education major.

-I am terrified of spiders.  Watching "Arachnophobia" in theaters was a seriously bad idea.

-I let go of relationships easily.

-I love creaky screen doors & porch swings.

-I hate the feeling of uncooked egg whites on my hands.

-The sound of Styrofoam is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

-I toured Germany, Austria, Italy, France, & Switzerland with a national honor chorus when I was 18.  I was the only chorus member from LA.

-I have absolutely no patience for drama.

     -I am a carbohydrate fanatic.

     -I am very tender-hearted.

-I love movies based on books unless I've read the books first, but tend to like both if I watch the movies first.  So, I love the Harry Potter books & hate the movies, whereas I love both the Lord of the Rings books & movies.

-I lose patience very quickly & always regret it.

-I like to watch movies repeatedly until I can quote them.

-I've read all of Jane Austen's novels, of which Pride & Prejudice is my favorite.

-I have never read or seen Gone With the Wind.

-I am a typically optimistic person.

-I like to have organized closets, cabinets, drawers, etc.

     -I am a consummate homebody.

-I have a hereditary sarcastic sense of humor.

-Unless serious, I laugh when people hurt themselves (also hereditary).

-I'm wild about candles & will spend hours smelling them.

This is probably more than you'd ever want to know about me, so even though I could go on, I won't.  Thanks for stopping by.  I hope y'all have a great day!
